Vivaan Madhok is a dual-degree Master of Public Administration candidate at the London School of Economics and Columbia University, concentrating in Climate, Energy and Environment. He most recently worked at the World Bank Group's Energy and Extractives Global Practice, and was selected as one of six Climate Investment Funds Youth Fellows worldwide, working on renewable energy and blended finance programmes across small island developing states. That work taught him that the binding constraint in these markets is rarely capital itself, but the weak institutional capacity and absent de-risking structures that keep capital from ever arriving. Sustainability matters to him because the countries that contributed least to the problem will bear the most of it, and whether they can build their way through it turns on questions of financial design, which is exactly where he wants to do his work.
Focus area: Blended finance and de-risking for energy transition in developing economies
